In my portfolio, what is the ‘Cost’ figure and how is it calculated?

Answer

In your portfolio for each of your accounts, you'll see a column titled 'Cost'. This is the amount you paid for the investment and includes all fees relating to the investment such as stamp duty – it’s also known as ‘book cost’. By comparing ‘Cost’ with ‘Value’, you can see whether an investment has gone up or down since you bought it (and by how much).

If you transferred the investment to us, the ‘Cost’ may be zero if we didn't receive it from your previous provider. You can update it manually by clicking on the figure in your portfolio. If you’d like to update an existing ‘Cost’ figure, please send us a secure message.

The ‘Cost’ figure for an investment will be adjusted following future transactions or a corporate action. Just remember that the figure may not always be accurate. You should only use it as a guide when making your investment decisions.
