Can I make additional contributions to my SIPP after starting drawdown?
Answer
You can make additional contributions to your SIPP after starting drawdown. However, how much you can contribute depends on what type of drawdown you have.
- If you take your tax-free lump sum and haven't taken any income payments, you can contribute the same amount to your SIPP as usual.
- If you have flexi-access drawdown and take an income payment, you can only contribute up to £10,000 each year to all money purchase pensions from that point on (including your AJ Bell SIPP). You'll also no longer be able to use unused allowances from previous tax years (known as ‘carry forward’).
- If you have the older capped drawdown, you'll still have an annual allowance of £60,000 even after taking an income payment.
