Who can open a Stocks and shares ISA?

To open a Stocks and shares ISA, you must be over 18 and one of the following:
- Ordinarily resident in the UK
- Working/serving as a Crown employee overseas, such as a member of the Armed Forces or a diplomat
- A spouse or civil partner of a Crown employee, working overseas
Once your ISA is opened, you'll either need to make a first deposit of at least £250, set up a direct debit of £25 per month, or transfer over an existing ISA from another provider for free.
Is it possible to open a Stocks and shares ISA in joint names?
The account can only be opened by an individual – you cannot hold one in a joint name.
Is it possible to open an ISA in the name of a trust or investment club?
No, this is not possible, as the ISA must be opened in the name of an individual.
